Could Deriscope pace the way for the new generation Excel beast — Object-Oriented UDFs — and what would that mean for the financial industry in particular?

Most of financial analysis software libraries used by major banks are written in so-called "Object-Oriented" programming languages, such as C++.

In the past, before the Object-Oriented paradigm became widespread, several financial institutions maintained their number-crunching mammoth code in procedural languages like C or Fortran.

I still remember, when I started my career as a quant with a top European Investment bank in the mid 90's, the apprehension arresting me and my fellow colleagues as our newly hired American boss demanded that we stop coding in C and switch over to C++. A year later, none of us would regret the big boss' decision!
